The K99 Design Pipeline

From idea to finger. One pipeline. Zero handoffs lost.

Custom jewelry has always lived in a mess of email chains, paper sketches, vendor texts, and spreadsheet bills of materials. K99 collapses the entire workflow β€” idea, drawing, CAD, sourcing, casting, bench, setting, delivery β€” into one project file. Your team works faster. Your customer watches their piece come to life.

Eight stages. One project file.

Every step β€” from the first conversation to the appraisal PDF β€” lives inside the same record. Roll the timeline back to any moment, any version.

Stage 01

Idea

Capture the spark

A customer walks in (or messages the storefront) with an idea β€” "a ring like grandma's but modern." K99 turns that conversation into a project the moment it begins, attaching reference photos, mood-board pins, and customer preferences right into the file.

  • One-click project creation from a chat, email, or in-store visit
  • Reference image gallery + Pinterest-style mood board
  • Customer profile auto-attached: ring size, metal preference, budget, deadline
  • Internal kickoff notes & estimated value land in the CRM pipeline
Stage 02

Drawing

Sketch & concept

Your designer sketches concepts β€” pencil on paper, an iPad render, or a quick AI mockup β€” and uploads them straight into the project. The customer reviews in their portal and leaves comments per concept. No more lost email threads.

  • Drag-and-drop sketches, render mockups, or AI concept images
  • Side-by-side concept comparison for the customer
  • Threaded comments on each concept β€” by you and by them
  • Approval state tracked: "Loves it," "Tweaks needed," "Try again"
Stage 03

CAD

3D model & customer approval

Your CAD designer builds the 3D model in Rhino, MatrixGold, or any tool they like, then uploads the render straight into the K99 project. The customer sees it from every angle in their portal β€” and signs off in one click before a single gram of metal is cast.

  • Upload renders from Rhino, MatrixGold, ZBrush, Blender β€” any tool
  • Customer-facing 360Β° viewer with zoom + measurements overlay
  • Revision history β€” every render version kept, never lost
  • Digital sign-off captured with timestamp + IP for the file
Stage 04

Sourcing

Diamonds, mountings, materials

Once approved, K99 connects you to 2M+ diamonds via Nivoda and the full Stuller catalog for mountings and findings β€” without leaving the project. Pick the stones, place holds, lock in pricing, and watch margin update live as you build the bill of materials.

  • Live Nivoda search β€” 2M+ natural & lab diamonds, GIA/IGI certs included
  • Stuller catalog for mountings, findings, and chain
  • Place stone holds + create memo orders directly from the project
  • Auto-calculated cost-of-goods + margin as items are added
Stage 05

Casting

Metal & investment

Send the CAD file to your caster (in-house or vendor) right from the project. K99 tracks the casting quote, the metal weight, the alloy, and when the cast piece is back in your hands β€” feeding straight into the cost ledger and notifying the customer at each milestone.

  • Send CAD file to caster directly with one click
  • Casting vendor + quote attached to the project
  • Track metal weight, alloy, and per-gram cost β€” auto-totaled
  • Cast-arrival timestamp + photo handoff into the file
Stage 06

Bench Work

Cleanup, assembly, prep

Your bench jeweler picks up the cast piece. They clean, file, solder, and prep it for setting β€” logging hours against the project as they go. Time tracking feeds straight into the labor cost on the BOM, so you always know exactly what each piece really cost to make.

  • Bench jeweler assignment + due date per task
  • Built-in time clock β€” start/stop hours against the project
  • Sub-tasks: filing, soldering, polishing, sizing β€” checkbox-tracked
  • Photos attached at each milestone for the customer feed
Stage 07

Setting & Finishing

Stones, polish, plating

The setter places each stone, the polisher mirrors the metal, and (if needed) the rhodium or yellow-gold plating goes on. Every stone gets logged with its origin (Nivoda invoice, customer-supplied, in-house inventory) β€” full provenance for insurance, appraisal, and resale.

  • Per-stone log: position, carat, source, certificate number
  • Polishing & plating step-tracking with finish notes
  • QC checklist before final photography
  • Provenance report auto-generated for insurance & appraisal
Stage 08

Delivery

Photo, hand-off, follow-up

Final photography, customer reveal, and shipping (or in-store pickup) β€” all from the project page. K99 closes the loop with appraisal documents, care instructions, and a follow-up automation that brings the customer back for the next anniversary, ring resize, or birthday gift.

  • Hero-shot photography uploaded into the customer's portal
  • ShipStation or in-store pickup β€” one-click handoff
  • Auto-generated appraisal PDF + care card
  • Anniversary & birthday automation β€” repeat customer, every year

Compute volume. Price the metal. Quote in seconds.

Upload an STL into K99 and we compute the internal volume in cubic millimetres, multiply by the alloy density to get grams, and pull live spot prices to give you a true material-cost quote β€” before the file ever reaches the caster.

How K99 quotes a custom piece
  1. 1.Designer uploads the .stl from Rhino / MatrixGold.
  2. 2.K99 computes V via signed-tetrahedra mesh integration β€” accurate even on non-watertight meshes.
  3. 3.Multiply by alloy density (e.g. 14k Au = 13.07 g/cmΒ³) to get cast weight in grams.
  4. 4.Multiply grams by live spot Γ· 31.1035 β†’ raw-metal cost.
  5. 5.Add casting fee + bench hours + setting + your margin β†’ customer-ready quote.

True internal volume

Signed-tetrahedra integration over the merged mesh β€” accurate to within 0.1% for production-grade STLs. No bounding-box approximations.

Live raw-metal pricing

Spot prices for gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and rhodium pulled from COMEX/NYMEX every 5 minutes. Bring-your-own data feed on Enterprise.

Alloy-aware densities

Built-in densities for 9k/14k/18k yellow, white & rose, plus platinum 950, palladium 950, and sterling silver. Custom alloys supported via the API.

Why this changes everything

The automation underneath.

Eight stages on a slide is easy. Making them actually run themselves is the hard part β€” and it's where K99 quietly does its best work.

Customer sees everything

A live private portal updates the customer at every stage. No more "any update?" emails β€” they already know.

Auto-notify at each milestone

Email, SMS, or in-app. Customers get a real-time feed of their piece coming to life β€” your team gets fewer interruptions.

True cost ledger, live

Diamonds, metal, casting, labor, plating β€” every line item rolled up. Margin and final price update in real time as work happens.

Time tracked against every project

Bench jewelers clock in/out per task. You finally know which piece designs are profitable and which are a labor sink.

Provenance & appraisal built-in

Every stone, every metal, every step β€” logged. Insurance docs and appraisal-ready PDFs generate themselves at delivery.

Connected to the rest of K99

Storefront, CRM, payroll, marketing β€” the project flows into all of it. One source of truth, not eight disconnected tabs.

The old way vs. K99.

What a custom-design workflow actually looks like β€” before and after.
