Classify products with hierarchical categories and tags.
Overview
Categories provide a hierarchical way to classify your products. While collections are for merchandising (how you display products), categories are for taxonomy (how you classify products).
Setting up categories
Go to Products → Categories to manage your category tree. Common jewelry category structures include:
- Rings → Engagement Rings, Wedding Bands, Fashion Rings
- Necklaces → Pendants, Chains, Chokers
- Earrings → Studs, Hoops, Drop Earrings
- Bracelets → Bangles, Tennis Bracelets, Charm Bracelets
Product types
In addition to categories, each product has a Product Type field (e.g., "Ring," "Necklace," "Bracelet"). Use product types for broad classification and categories for detailed taxonomy.
Tags
Tags provide freeform classification. Add multiple tags to any product for flexible filtering. The product list supports filtering by tags, and tags are searchable from the admin.
