Migration overview

A complete guide to migrating your store data to Katura.

Overview

Migrating to Katura from another platform is a structured process that ensures all your data arrives safely. This guide walks you through every step β€” from planning your migration to verifying your data and going live.

Note

The order in which you import data matters. Import products first, then customers, then historical orders so that relationships between records are preserved correctly.

Step 1: Plan your migration

Before you start moving data, review your existing store and decide what to bring over. A migration is a great opportunity to clean up old, low-performing content.

Common data types to migrate:

  • Products (including variants, images, and prices)
  • Customer profiles and contact information
  • Historical orders (already fulfilled)
  • Gift cards and store credit balances
  • Collections / categories
  • Blog posts and static pages
  • Discount codes and promotions

Step 2: Choose an import method

Katura supports multiple import methods, from simple to advanced:

MethodComplexityBest for
One-click connector (Shopify, WooCommerce)LowStores on supported platforms
CSV importMediumAny platform β€” export your data, map it to our template
API importHighDevelopers who want full control over the import

Step 3: Import your data

Follow the specific guide for your source platform:

Step 4: Verify your data

After importing, check that everything arrived correctly. See the post-import verification guide for a detailed checklist.

Step 5: Set up your store

With your data imported, configure the rest of your store:

Step 6: Place test orders

Before going live, place a few test orders to verify the entire purchase flow works correctly.

Step 7: Set up your team

Add your team members and configure their roles and permissions.

Step 8: Connect your domain

Transfer or connect your existing domain to your Katura store. See the custom domain guide.

Warning

Disconnect any existing domains from your previous platform before connecting them to Katura. Running the same domain on two platforms simultaneously can cause SSL certificate errors.

Step 9: Set up SEO redirects

Your old platform likely had different URL structures. Set up URL redirects to preserve your search engine rankings and avoid broken bookmarks.

Step 10: Go live

Run through the launch checklist one final time, then remove password protection and announce your new store!
